In Patient Services : 

There are 132 beds allotted to different wards. Orthopedic, ENT and paediatric ward ; Gynaecology and Obstetric ward is in the first floor. Surgery and Hematology and Bone marrow transplantation center in the second floor. Medicine Ward is in the third floor. After the inauguration of new building, these beds are expected to increase sooner. The most noteworthy ward is the hematology ward, in the second floor because of its widespread recognition and exemplary services.

Orthopaedic Services at Civil Service Hospital

Another reputed department in this hospital is the Department of Orthopaedics. There are seven expert consultants serving full time.

OPD Services are provided throughout the week except Sunday and Wednesday and EHS OPD services are provided throughout the week. On Saturdays only emergency services are provided.

The orthopaedic ward consists of 25 beds and is operated round the clock.

All kinds of orthopaedic and spinal trauma are treated at this center. This means fracture at any site of your body except the head and chest region.

Some complicated fractures that you can be sure to get treated perfectly at this center are : fractures of the pelvis, fracture around the knee and ankle, complex fractures around the elbow and shoulder.

Additionally, arthroplasty i.e. joint replacement services are provided. Civil Service Hospital is the most voluminous center in terms of providing joint replacement services in Nepal.

Arthroplasty is done on every Sunday and Wednesday and there is a long queue of patients waiting to get these services.

Brief overview of joint replacement service at Civil Service Hospital

Joint replacement is the most advanced surgery that is aimed to replenish the function of your joints. Arthroplasty which is its medical terminology, is a new service in Nepal.

Joint replacement is provided to those who are in its real need. People suffering from extreme pain around their hip and knee joints and that impair their daily life are in need to replace their joints.

Currently, only hip and knee joint replacements are done in Nepal and in this hospital.

This service is lead by Prof. Dr. Dirgha Raj R.C along with his team consisting of Dr. Kapil Mani K.C. and Dr. Suman Babu Marahattha

How to contact for joint replacement service? 

If you are in real need to strengthen your joints and your life, first of all get consultation from doctors mentioned above.

The doctors will then assess you with your history, physical exam and X-rays.

If these evidences show that your joint needs replacement, then you will be undergoing all pre-operative investigations and getting a date for your surgery.

Joint replacement surgery at the hip region typically takes two hours at the hip and one and half hour at the single knee. This time is the real operation time, excluding all preparations done at the OT bed. Please compare this with the total true flight time during air travel.

You will be admitted one day prior  your surgery. All pre operative preparations like bathing, primary washing, shaving as required is done on this day. All optimizations for good surgery and better outcome is the aim of this procedure

On the day of surgery, you will be taken to the operation theater at around 9 am. After proper examination and nerve blocks, you will undergo your joint replacement. Typically, your relatives will get to visit you at around 1 pm. After the surgery, you will be observed in the Intensive Care Unit to stabilize and optimize your vitals and overall well-being. Then you will be transferred to single cabin. The orthopaedic team will take your care for five to seven days. Physiotherapy will started on your second post operative day. Then you will be discharged.

Medicine Services at Civil Service Hospital

Two units provide OPD services throughout the week and there are two wards to serve the admitted patients. Indeed, this is the most popular ward in the entire hopsital. The beds remained occupied all the times. There are several sub-specialities.

Due to such bed occupancy most of the patients who receive treatment in the emergency and need admission are bound to refer.

Gynaecology and Obstetrics Services 

The department of Gynaecology and obstetrics serves a lot of female patients and expectant ladies. OPD is run on all weekdays except Tuesday and Friday. EHS OPDs are run on all weekdays.

Emergency Caesarean Section is available 24 hours. Emergency normal delivery for already visiting pregnant women is directly entertained through the obstetrics inpatient ward, at the ground floor.

The protocol for unregistered patient is not very clear. Hence, we advise to visit the OPD at least once and register yourself to leverage these emergency services.

Brief Overview of General Surgery services :

OPD services are run five days a week. Monday and Thursday is the operation day .

EHS operations are run on all weekdays except Monday and Thursday.

Services include all gastro-surgery like cholecystectomy, appendectomy, tumour care.

Paediatric surgery is not available in this hospital
